The Conservation Superheroes Drawing Contest invites elementary students to show how we can save water and energy at home — through original artwork starring their very own Conservation Superhero. The contest is all about spreading a conservation message: helping young artists explore water conservation, energy efficiency, and protecting our environment.
About the Contest
Each year, BPUB challenges students in grades 1-5 to show one or more ways to conserve water and energy at home. The conservation message is what matters most — students bring it to life through a Conservation Superhero of their own design, shown in action protecting our water, electricity, and environment.
Who Can Enter?
- Texas students in grades 1-5
- Enrolled at a school in BPUB's service territory, or living in a home served by BPUB (electric, water, or wastewater)
- Homeschooled students must provide proof of enrollment or a signed Letter of Assurance
- One entry per student
- BPUB employees and their immediate families are not eligible
What We're Looking For
Your artwork should show one or more ways people can conserve energy and/or water at home, with a clear, positive message. Entries are judged on artistry, creativity, originality, and how well they convey that message.
Be creative! Your superhero can have special powers, a unique costume, and an important mission to save resources.

How to Enter
- Review the Details: Read the official contest rules and download the entry form.
- Choose One Activity: Download one of the four activity sheets above and complete it.
- Create Your Artwork: Draw your superhero on the BPUB drawing sheet on the back of your activity sheet (or a sheet no larger than 11" x 17"), showing how to save energy and/or water at home. Don't write the student's name on the artwork.
- Complete the Entry Form: Fill out the entry form and have a parent or guardian sign the agreement. Clip the artwork to the form.
- Submit by September 4: Submit online using the entry form below, or mail/drop off (unfolded) to BPUB, ATTN: Digital Information Platforms, 1425 Robinhood Dr., Brownsville, TX 78521.
Online entries are due by 5:00 PM on September 4; mailed entries must be postmarked by September 4.
Enter & Vote Online
Take part in the contest right here. During the submission window (Aug 14 – Sept 4), submit your completed entry online. During community voting (Oct 2 – Oct 9 at 5:00 PM), five finalists are chosen in each grade level — browse the entries and cast your vote. The entries with the most votes become the grand prize winners.

Prizes
- Grand Prize — One winner per grade level (5 total) receives an Apple iPad (11th Generation).
- Community Choice — Twenty runners-up receive BPUB-branded products.
Prizes are claimed at the BPUB Administration Building, 1425 Robinhood Drive, Brownsville, TX. The student must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult with a valid government-issued ID, and must show proof of eligibility for the 2026-2027 school year (school photo ID, recent BPUB bill, signed Verification of Enrollment form, report card, or Homeschool Letter of Assurance).
Rules & Guidelines
- Original work by the student only, not previously submitted or awarded elsewhere
- Hand-created using media such as watercolor, pen and ink, or markers — no collages, AI/computer-generated art, photography, or photocopies
- No company logos, brands, store names, or other copyrighted material
- The student's name must not appear on the artwork
- Do not frame or mount the artwork; glitter is strongly discouraged
- Keep the message clear, positive, and family-friendly — no violent, inappropriate, or hateful themes
- One entry per student. All submitted artwork becomes the property of BPUB and will not be returned.
